Often when out photographing nature, I feel compelled to keep shooting and/or keep looking, even though I don't know why. My soul and spirit know there is something else that I'm supposed to see, but my brain doesn't yet see it. This photo was taken during one of those times.
Walking back from a birding hike, I was compelled to stop and take wave photos even though it was getting late and the lighting was poor. When I got back to the cabin and loaded the photos onto my laptop, I was overwhelmed as I scrolled through them. There, in among hundreds of nondescript wave photos, was a perfect Sacred Heart. One tiny fraction of a second in time, frozen. An Ex Voto from the sea.
Although I've rendered this image in a painterly style, the shape of the wave, water spray and highlights by the sun are as they were that evening. Unaltered. A perfect, sacred offering from the sea. May this simple gift touch your heart and soul today. Love to you, my friends 💗
(For those of you who aren't familiar with Sacred Hearts, they are a Christian symbol of an Ex Voto, or offering, and are often topped with flames or an orb and cross.)
